[Webpub] Twitter me this...

 From our blog, http://webpub.mit.edu

I recently learned about Twitter, “a global community of friends and
strangers answering one simple question: What are you doing?” I found
out about it when I stumbled across Justin.tv, a site about a guy
named Justin who is broadcasting live video of his life 24/7 to the
internet. Justin.tv uses Twitter to let people know what Justin is up
to, where he’s going, or what he’s doing.

So basically I caved and joined. I figured hey, all the cool kids are
jumping off the cliff, so I should too. I wrote my first
“update” (which is limited to 140 characters) and added a few
“friends” who I would like to get updates from. I can check online to
see what my newfound peeps are up to, or I can have their updates
sent to my mobile phone or IM account.

To be honest, I think this is a little more web 2.0 than I can
handle. I’m down with editing wikipedia stubs and enjoy writing this
blog, but is it really necessary for me to tell the world what I’m
doing at every minute? Who really cares?

I did see that the Web 2.0 Expo was using Twitter to keep people
updated on the conference schedule and track locations. That might be
a more real world use for this app…

If you want to add me as your friend, I’m lcmayer. Consider it a
social experiment.
