Department Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies Program

Anthropology Lecturer Position, Fulltime.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a faculty position at the level of appointment stream Lecturer in Anthropology. The renewable three-year contract begins in Fall 2022. A Ph.D. in hand at the time of application is required. This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising undergraduates. As the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUGS) the successful candidate is expected to serve as the primary academic advisor for the undergraduate majors in the department and to train and supervise the graduate student assistant advisor; to manage enrollment and certification for graduation; to develop/support undergraduate Anthropology programming (such as the Anthro Club); and to teach four undergraduate courses per year, including at least one large introductory-level lecture with the help of one or more graduate student Teaching Assistants.
We especially encourage applicants with teaching and research experience in North America with a particular emphasis on Native American, African American, or LatinX studies from one or more sub-field perspectives (Archaeology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Biological Anthropology). Experience running a fieldwork program or providing other hands-on undergraduate programs is welcome.
Please submit a cover letter, CV, and evidence of effective teaching and undergraduate advising (statement of teaching philosophy, list of courses, and sample syllabi, and, if available, peer evaluations and student surveys of teaching, the record of supervising graduate student teaching assistant(s), training and experience with technologies, processes, and resources for advising). Applicants should incorporate in their statement a brief description of how their teaching and/or advising demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
