Good Afternoon,
As part of our phased support plan for Windows Vista Enterprise Edition,
Information Services and Technology (IS&T) is pleased to announce support
for Windows Mail for Vista. Windows Mail is the default email program
installed with the Vista operating system.
IS&T continues to recommend users WAIT to install or upgrade to Windows
Vista Enterprise as many applications for productive and safe computing are
not ready yet, including: SAPgui, Kerberos (KFW), and printing to Kerberos
restricted printers. Support for Windows Mail is another step in our
increased effort to make a list of these missing applications shorter.
Notable Features of Windows Mail
- Instant Search: Windows Mail includes a built-in Instant Search field,
just like the one in the Windows Vista operating system. Instant Search
enables you to scan all of your e-mail quickly from within Windows Mail.
Additionally, you can search through your e-mail from the Vista operating
system Instant Search feature either via the Start menu or by using the
Search Explorer (e-mail messages are included in searches of your PC's hard
drive).
- Reliability: In the past, opening large files of saved e-mails caused
problems for Outlook Express users. Windows Mail is based on new technology
for storing e-mail and provides significantly improved reliability.
Training
Beginning in July, monthly Quick Start Classes will be available on Windows
Mail. Should departments have a need for training a group in the use of
Windows Mail, please contact Kate Kibbee kkibbee at mit.edu, the Training Team
team leader.
