Information Services and Technology (IS&T), in collaboration with IT
colleagues across campus, has officially begun the Kerberos for Windows
(KfW) 3.2 release project.

KfW 3.2 is an integrated Kerberos release for the Microsoft Windows
operating systems. It includes the Kerberos v4 library, Kerberos v5 library
version 1.6.1, Kerberos v5 GSS API library, Kerberos 524 library, KClient
API library, Leash API library, Network Identity Manager,
kinit/klist/kdestroy/krb524init/ms2mit/aklog command-line credentials
managers, and an in-memory credentials cache.

Applicability:
Kerberos is required to access many computing resources at MIT. If you work
or study here, you need it. This version contains improvements and security
updates since 2004, and it installs on Vista.

KfW 3.2 is designed for 32-bit versions of Windows XP, 2003, 2003 R2, Vista
and WOW64 environments. There is no native 64-bit process support at the
current time.

Timeline:
IS&T anticipates availability and support for KfW 3.2 will be ready in
August 2007.

New Features and Improvements to Kerberos for Windows 3.2:

- Network Identity Manager GUI replaces Leash.

- Clients will now be prompted for tickets with all GSSAPI applications.
For example, when users launch SAPgui without Kerberos tickets having been
initialized, they are prompted will a Kerberos login window.

- The Kerberos logon dialogs seen from TechTime, SAPgui, etc. is the same as
the standard logon dialog for Network Identity Manager.

For a complete list of new features, please reference the release notes for
KfW 3.2: http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/kfw-3.2/kfw-3.2/relnotes.html.

The Kerberos for Windows 3.2 Release Team will send updates throughout the
process. For additional information on KfW 3.2 and the release project, see
the Kerberos for Windows 3.2 release notebook located at
http://web.mit.edu/swrt/releases/kfw.

IS&T will communicate to the MIT community throughout the release process as
needed.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to participate in the
release of KfW 3.2, please contact the team via email at
