[WinPartners] "Demoting" a user

Eudora will work perfectly fine with the Windows 2000 and above security model,
but IS&T's installer still seems to be using the old model of keeping stuff in
%SystemDrive%\Users\<username>\Eudora. Ordinary users on a machine do not have
access to the %SystemDrive% or below for write access outside of the usual
Windows folders.

Solution (and the proper way to use the app) is to let Eudora place its settings
in the user's profile directory, under
%UserProfile%\ApplicationData\Qualcomm\Eudora (untile at least as long as this
isn't a domain machine and/or won't be up/downloading that profile frequently;
you can get around that with redirects, but that's beyond the scope of this).

You can change the DEudora.ini and the users Eudora.ini files accordingly, but
the easiest method for you is to get the plain Eudora installer from Qualcomm
and then enter MIT's registration ID (look in the About dialog of an MIT Eudora
installation). Then, when setting up, choose to save the data in the users'
application data folder. This way all users on the machine will have their own
distinct mail kept as part of their profile, and won't need admin privileges.
And you won't need to create custom Eudora shortcuts for each, just executing
Eudora.exe will "do the right thing".

BTW, if you are worried about staying with the currently distributed version of
Eudora from IS&T, older Eudora installers are available also from Qualcomm
(finally) at http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2350hq.html .
