Hello MIT-WebPub,
Please join us next Wednesday, September 14th, for the Harvard Library Innovation Lab’s<http://librarylab.law.harvard.edu/> presentation: "Library as Startup: Saving the World from Link Rot."
Talk
Members of the Harvard Library Innovation Lab will discuss their experience building Perma.cc<https://perma.cc/>, a modern web development project that has grown beyond Harvard to include over 11,000 registered users at 713 archiving institutions.
Topics covered include development workflow, hosting and deployment, and strategies for scaling user support. A quick look at their github repository<https://github.com/harvard-lil/perma> reveals deft use of modern web libraries, automated testing, and task queues.
This work has translated into a stable software product that has been noticed beyond academia. Bloomberg Law, which covers the business aspects of large legal practices, says about Perma.cc<http://Perma.cc>: "If your law firm isn't already using it, you probably should plan to.<https://bol.bna.com/the-problem-with-urls-in-legal-marketing/>"
Bios
The talk will be presented by Jack Cushman, a software developer and former appellate attorney; Brett Johnson, technologist and outreach/support lead for Perma.cc<http://Perma.cc>; and Ben Steinberg, a software developer and librarian. More information on Jack, Brett, and Ben may be found on the Library Innovation Lab website<http://librarylab.law.harvard.edu/about>.
