Hello TechTV users and Collection Administrators:
TechTV will be transitioning the back end hosting services on Monday, April 29th. To do this, we need to synchronize the databases between our test server and the production server which will require us to disable the ability to upload content to your collections.
On Friday, April 26th, 2013 at 12pm ET, uploads to TechTV of new content will be disabled to allow time for the databases to be synchronized over the weekend. Users will still be able to view content that is currently on the system and will be able to do so throughout the weekend.
On Monday, April 29th, 2013 at 10am ET, TechTV will be down to allow for the code upload to the production server. Viewing will not be possible during this period. We expect full service to resume when this process has been completed.
Tuesday, April 30th at 12pm ET uploads to TechTV will resume with normal operational services.
What this change means to you:
The new hosting service, a Cloud service hosted by Amazon, will give us greater freedom to modify the TechTV architecture to incorporate advances meant to better support the new approaches to teaching and learning by DLCs on campus.
For the vast majority of videos and video collections on TechTV, you will likely see little if any difference. If your video content is embedded in other pages, if you made embedding changes recommended in October, 2012, the embedded videos will continue to play correctly. If they're not updated, please either do so between now and Friday Afternoon.
In the unlikely event of a change of schedule, we will send out another email with more details. Also, keep an eye on the MIT TechTV Blog for more info and updates - http://scripts.mit.edu/~techtv/blog/
Early Access Testers:
To those of you who participated in the early-access period: we will delete any experimental or test content uploaded to the Development site (TechTV-DEV.mit.edu) . After the transition you'll still have any content posted directly to TechTV.
Please forward any questions or concerns about the process to techtv at mit.edu<mailto:techtv at mit.edu>.
Best regards,
Robert Sikkema
