One possibility is that during transfer to the web server, the pdf got transferred using a non-binary transfer method, which would cause the embedded font to become garbled.

Depending upon how you got the PDF to the server, you might be able to re-transfer it but make sure to use a binary-style transfer.

not sure if this is the issue, but it sounds like it
