[WebPub] [MITGC] Open Comments vs. Closed Comments?

Hi,
I'm working on a website project in which we're looking to create some
frictionless "hooks" that enable unauthenticated users (visitors to
the site who have not registered or logged in) to engage with content
in ways that a) harvest knowledge and b) incentivize registration.
We think one way to do this is enable open commenting on two kinds of
content:
- Blogs
- Discussion boards
I'm looking for some guidance around whether this is going to be worth
it in the long run. Anyone have strong opinions on open vs. closed
comments (assuming we can use Captcha or similar plugin to eliminate
most spam)?
Thanks!
