Closed Captioning for Flash
March 16th, 2007
While Flash is..well, Flashy…it does pose a number of accessibiliy
problems for us web publishers. If a user can’t use your Flash site’s
interface because of some disability, then they aren’t going to be
able to use your site. However our friends across the river are
working on ways to make Flash a little better for the world…
WGBH has created “CC for Flash” to simplify captioning
for Adobe Flash technology. With this new (and free!) tool,
developers are able to more easily add captions in Flash. Now,
millions of users who are deaf or hard of hearing will be better able
to experience Web-based video in Flash, and search engines will be
better able to access the contents of the captions on the video. Read
more about this brand new tool at our site, http://ncam.wgbh.org/news/
