The Publishing Services Bureau is sponsoring an online/audio seminar
called Writing for the Web.

The seminar is being offered by CASE, the Council for Advancement and
Support of Education. Attendees will be able to listen to the
presenter, ask questions, and interact with participants at other
colleges and universities.

Please join us:
Thursday, February 16, 2006
2-3:30 p.m.
Location to be provided with confirmation; seating is limited.
RSVP by February 10 to rsvpcommworkshops at mit.edu. Include your name,
department, email and telephone number. We will send a confirming
email back to you.

If any other office plans to host the seminar and would be willing to
take a few guests at their location, could you let me know? This way,
if we receive requests that exceed the capacity of the room, we could
direct those folks to you.

We look forward to seeing you at the seminar.

Sincerely,

Monica Lee

Seminar description:
Your website navigation is clear. Your content is on target for what
interests your audience. But your visitors are still not reading what
you want them to read. What's wrong? It might just be that the
writing style for your website isn't "web friendly." Examine the key
points you need to use when writing for your website or when
searching for someone to write web copy for you. The seminar includes
examples from higher education and other sites to illustrate the high
standards you should aim for.

After this session, you'll know why the best thing you can do to
improve the impact of your website (at relatively little expense) is
to find the right person to rewrite your existing copy. As a bonus,
learn why many of the tips for better website writing will apply to
your e-mail as well.

Benefits of participating:
- Help visitors connect more readily to your website
- Understand the key skills you should look for when hiring a web
copywriter
- Gain ammunition for creating the position of "web editor-in-chief"
at your school
- Learn the important copywriting skills that fit electronic
communications
- Increase the impact of your email communications

Please note: we have recently launched an update to the
Communications Workshop site. If you have visited previously, we
recommend that you clear your cache before visiting in order to view
the latest pages.
