Dear Colleagues,
Last year IS&T implemented the Google search engine at the request of our MIT
customers, and MIT Google has received rave reviews. Since January 2005 we have
been providing training and outreach to assist MIT clients to switch from the
Inktomi search engine to MIT Google. The MIT Community has embraced this
transition and we are encouraged by this progress. If your web site still uses
Inktomi, please note the following deadline.
MIT's Inktomi search engine is targeted for retirement on Friday, July 1st,
2005. Search forms that use the previous search engine, Inktomi, will cease to
work with the deactivation of the Inktomi server.
Switching from Inktomi to Google can be as simple as replacing 10 lines of code
on your web site, and the IS&T Google Team is available to assist.
Documentation for using Google search on your site is at
http://web.mit.edu/ist/google
Please update any remaining Inktomi search forms to use Google. If you'd like
any help with this transition, or have any questions, please write to
google at mit.edu.
Thank you,
Suzana Lisanti
