Oakland University, in the northern suburbs of Detroit, is seeking both a Technical Director and a Costume Shops Supervisor. Both are 12 month staff positions and have some teaching responsibilities (for which there is further compensation).

Technical Director

OAKLAND UNIVERSITY Department of Music, Theatre and Dance seeks full-time Technical Director to work with our Theatre Program and our BFA Theatre Design and Technology students.
The Technical Director collaborates with staff, directors and student and faculty designers to insure the safe design, construction, installation, and removal of scenery for 4 annual mainstage productions (2 musicals and 2 plays), a touring children’s show and 1 mainstage opera. The technical director also manages student and professional shop staff, budget, and construction schedules; maintains scenery and props shops, storage facilities, and equipment; performs select maintenance in production facilities; and facilitates and participates in instruction of technical design, construction, and management.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 5 years professional experience in scenic construction and installation. Desired qualifications include an MFA in technical theatre or equivalent experience as well as experience in the following: teaching at the college level; budgeting; and sound engineering.
Above all, Oakland University’s Theatre Program seeks applicants who will mentor students, help them plan for their professional careers and guide their professional development.
In addition to the above, the technical director is expected to teach production courses as an adjunct, for which there is compensation in addition to the base salary.
Costume Shop Supervisor

The Costume Shop Supervisor collaborates with staff, directors and student and faculty designers to produce costumes for 4 annual mainstage productions (2 musicals and 2 plays), a touring children’s show and 1 mainstage opera. The Costume Shop Supervisor also manages student and professional shop staff, budget, and build schedules; maintains the costume shop, storage facilities, and equipment; and facilitates and participates in instruction of costume construction and management.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years professional experience in costume construction and wardrobe management. Desired qualifications include an MFA in costume production or design, or equivalent experience. The theatre program is also looking for someone with experience teaching at the college level; budgeting; management; history of costume construction; and costume crafts.
