Dear All:

I wrote you about 18 months ago about an opening for an Assistant Professor of Scenic & Lighting Design for the University of Mary Washington. As we suspected, finding a strong candidate with skills in both disciplines is much harder today than it was when we hired our recently retired faculty member 34 years ago! We have reopened our search and are now focused on the single discipline—Visiting Assistant Professor of Scenic Design.

I run the stage management program at the Department of Theatre & Dance at UMW in Fredericksburg, VA. I have been a part of this program for more than 20 years. Ours is a liberal arts school located one hour south of Washington, DC and our theatre department, while not terribly well known just yet, is very strong. In the last several years we have experienced newfound support from the administration and we are really at a very exciting place in our history.

Please spread the word to help in our search to find the best person for this position. I know the right person is out there, but I also know we do not always find that person through traditional advertisements. Word of mouth is key and the deadline for applicants is June 30.
