Hello Undergraduates,
Hope your long weekend was restful! Friendly reminder that if you're
planning an event, you should submit it here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1zVbtXskaeNY51cfNeJp0cCdbjlrkSq07OWTTqv-2X3s/viewform>
for
it to be featured in The Byte!
*Interesting piece of history of the week *from our UA History Chair,
Allan Sadun
(ua-history at mit.edu; add yourself to the ua-history-interest at mit.edu mailing
list here <https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/ua-history-interest> if
you'd like to receive more):
Technique, like The Tech, has been around since nearly MIT's beginning, and
has a nice set of archives on their website. Among them is the 1928
Freshman Gray Book
<http://web.mit.edu/technique/www/scans/1928_Freshman_Gray_Book.pdf>, which
was given to freshmen to help acquaint them with each other and with the
Institute. Starting on page 52, you can see Technique's run-down of which
clubs, sports, etc. are important, and a description of the once-famous MIT
Field Day! (Field Day has and could be the subject of /many/ essays. It's
interesting to see that back in 1928, there were a clear set of "prominent"
clubs - Technique, The Tech, TCA, Voo Doo - that everyone mostly agreed
upon.
