Dear Undergraduates,
Make a difference at MIT. Advocate for issues that you and your peers
find important. Work closely with faculty and administrators. Change
something that isn't working for undergrads, or continue to guarantee
important rights.
Institute Committees are charged with investigating and recommending
action on issues vital to the proper functioning of the Institute. Many
committees have considerable duties, and are empowered to address issues
of substantial significance and recognition; work in these committees is
influential and can be rewarding in many ways.
The online application for membership on these committees is up at
http://web.mit.edu/ua/www/committees/nomcomm/applynom.html and is due on
*Monday, April 11 at 11:59 PM.
*MIT undergraduates do not often find themselves wondering what to do
with all of their spare time, so a key concern for many prospective
applicants is time commitment. You may want to know that many of the
Institute Committees are not busy year-round; some are busy for a month,
some have three meetings a year, and some may meet every couple of weeks
over lunch. This does not alter the fact, however, that these committees
are important. Working on a committee is an excellent opportunity to
voice your opinion and the opinion of your peers while making decisions
about some of the most important issues on campus.
Some examples of these committees are Committee on Discipline, Committee
on Student Life, Committee on Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid,
etc. For a complete list, see http://web.mit.edu/ua/www/committees/nomcomm/
Please contact ua-nomcomm-chairs at mit.edu if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Harel M. Williams
Undergraduate Association, President
