[Tango-L] 10,000 instructors of tango on the wall

Someone, wrote and asked me if I would forward any good advice for mantaining
the interest of new leads in a Tango community.... I didn't get but very few
replies to my 'Care and Feeding' post and they were all posted in the main
thread.. but there are some observations that I'd like to make...and perhaps
others will join in with theirs.
First, the main impetus, drive of a Tango community is usually supplied by
sellers of classes....and by teachers. They love tango and want it to thrive and
build community and make money to cover their expenses and more...some actually
want to make enough to buy a second and third apartment in BsAs.
Well, then they also feel that they have to keep it interesting for the non
Spanish understanding dancer who was raised in a culture much different than
that of BsAs....so, they are faced with a Herculeian task.. and so, they begin
to be an entertainment director too.....etc etc etc... I can't imagine all the
challenges that they face and so teaching and caring for the simple, newbie male
lead and his simple requirements get lost in the often elite ranking and
pecking order of the tango community .... am I over stating this?
maybe...there is a good job being done by many in many places...and there is
also the confusing efforts of all the rest....the so-called 'evolution' of
Argentine Tango into many other forms of Tango and the alternative music
replacing traditional Argentine Tango music as each Milonga gets later in the
nite...blah blah blah..now I'm just gripping and complaining... oh well,,
everyplace can't be BsAs, I guess... and what were we talking about? Oh Yes,
the constant flow of visiting teachers....ugh .... I recommend that the new
male lead is protected from such encounters and that someone good with teaching
the basics and the navigation of the milonga is pointed to as THE person to
consult for the newbie and that the Milonga itself as THE place to
dance.....time for another coffee.
