Dear all
A recent article at local newspaper La Nacion on december 16th 2007 made by a journalist named Pablo Sirven, creates confusion .
It says there is a boom in tango dancing places, making a counting , according to their "field research" , for a number .
Tito Palumbo , editor of B.A. Tango- Bs.As.Tango , on his january /february 2008 issue, includes on page 34 a translation of his article " A case of bad journalism" . I will copy part of this comment
warm regards
alberto

Already the lead that short text below the headline containing a summary of the most important aspects of an article, is totally wrong. Textually: " In only five years, the dance halls available to dance the city music par excellence have increased as much as tenfold." This information is false and it summarizes a paragraph taken from a book publised by the City Government , where it is also said there are 300 weekly meetings. The journalist did not comply with one of the basic principles of the profession , that is , to check the information with two independent sources.
If we had checked the Quarterly guide published by us, he would have confirmed, with an error margin around three per cent ( 3%) , that five years ago there were 116 weekly proposals to dance . By the end of last year , the number of weekly milongas amounted to 119.
