is wasted in women's technique workshops.

Well Chris, if women's technique workshops involved
practicing ochos with a wall, then you would be dead on
right. The only thing practicing ochos with a wall (or
barre) would improve is the women's
hang-on-to-the-guy-instead-of-use-her-own-balance
technique. Oh, and maybe consquently, improve her
sitting-and-watching-instead-of-dancing-at-the-milonga
technique.

Fortunately, I haven't seen that sort of unteaching in many
years. Either you have no clue about what goes on in
women's technique workshops Chris, or you live in a tango
backwater where teaching methodology hasn't changed in over
a decade. Either way, you aren't really qualified to
comment on this, are you?

For the followers, in the unlikely event that you find
yourselves in a technique workshop and the teacher tells
you to practice ochos with a wall, walk out and demend your
money back. You are being cheated. Then post the name of
the teacher on the list, so the rest of us can avoid him.

Anyone (man or woman) who has been dancing more than a few
weeks should be able to practice their ochos alone, in the
middle of the floor, and maintain balance and control. If
you can't, then you are not ready to dance with a partner.
But don't be discouraged. Work at it at home for 20 minutes
a day, and you will be able to do it in a week or less. If
you are not willing to invest 20 minutes a day into
improving your balance and control, then why would anyone
want to dance with you?

Dancing with an experienced partner will not do anything to
improve your balance or control. You have to work alone to
develop those skills. Most men (except Chris) seem to
figure this out on their own, but it seems that many women
think they need a more experienced partner to practice.
These women never seem to improve, do they? They just sit
and complain about the shortage of men, while the newbies
who are willing to work quietly surpass them (in short
order), and then get all the dances.

Sean
