There are two options for extending your visa if you plan to stay longer
than 90 days in Argentina:

1.  Travel to Uruguay;
or
2. Obtain an extension from immigration.

I have taken the fast boat to Colonia, Uruguay many times. It costs
U$S70.00. and takes most of the day, but your visa is renewed for 90 days.

The second option is faster and cheaper, but it cannot be used every 90
days. You need to present your passport at the immigration office on Av.
Antartida Argentina which is open Monday-Friday from 7:30-13:30. Take a
number at the section for visa extensions. When called, present your
passport and request an extension. Your name, local address, and passport
number are entered into their computer, and a printout is made of your
entries/departures. You need a photocopy of the photo page and the current
visa stamp page in your passport (on one page) to present for the extension.
Immigration personnel will give you a printed form which you then present
when you pay the 100 peso extension fee to the cashier. Return with the
receipt to the extension desk. An immigration official will stamp your
passport with a Tourist visa and enter the date to which it has been
extended.
The extension can be requested at two weeks before your tourist visa
expires.
It certainly helps if you know the language, because no one at the
immigration department will help you in English.
