In an attempt establish this difficult question, I attempted to analyse the
duos appearing in the index of the Eurovision Song Contest Official Handbook
(there isn't much else to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon). Of the 54 duos
appearing between 1956 and 2003 there were:

male duos - 3
female duos - 3
mixed duos, female first - 21
mixed duos, male first - 8
ambiguous - 1 (a married couple appearing as "Stone & Stone")
difficult to tell from the names - 18

It would be dangerous to guess in the last category: I nearly put down Luci
Kapurso and Hamo Hajarhdozic as F+M, but they are both male.

The contest is usually presented by a lone woman, but on the rare occasions
when a couple do the job, the woman is named first.
