Hi Miles,
"However Caroline, Igor does have a point. Stopping the dance in the
middle of tanda and walking off the floor with lil or no explanation
is sure to confuse more than a few."
Well, how could my leader not notice my crashing into other people? How
oblivious does he have to be?
If he was in any way attentive or considerate, he would have cut the tanda
short himself and work on his navigational skills at Practicas before
returning to Milongas.
Speed of his dancing has nothing to do with it.
In Buenos Aires, they are merciless about poor navigation. In North America,
women have a hard time rejecting men who walked up to them to ask for a
dance but in situations where the cabaceo is used, trust me, leaders with
bad navigation would be lucky to get one single dance for women will avoid
eye contact with him 100% and furthermore they warn each other about him.
You suggested backleading to control the leader's navigation - that does not
work. I can't see behind myself so how would I know I would be rear-ended?
If the leader doesn't feel me tensing up, or my body being roughly bumped or
hear me gasping in pain as someone's stilletto stabbed my calf, then
clearly, he deserves having his tanda cut short.
Caroline
