Process Controlled Workflow Errors

Hi James,

After selecting the work items in SWIA just use menu Edit -> Work item -> Logically delete.

Make sure note 1705866 is applied.

Regards,
Eddie

Another one that's a bit goofy is when wanting to logically delete work items en masse via SWIA, you have to type in ADMC into the transaction code box after highlighting all of the relevant work items - the same functionality could've been delivered via a separate transaction and instead is 'hidden' away as ADMC can't be accessed as an individual t-code.

Hi Loren,

Thanks for filling us in.

That’s just goofy about not being able to use standard workflow admin tools to do standard workflow admin stuff. I don’t know what SAP are thinking!

Cheers,
Sue

Quick update on this:

SAP was not able to determine the root cause of the “Create Decision Sets” error that occurred in my Process Controlled workflow. The error has only happened three times in our system and the instances of it happening were very random. The users who got these errors were able to create other shopping carts without error after these errors occurred. So SAP believes that these errors were probably caused by some kind of temporary issue within the system or backend database.

We were, however, able to successfully restart these failed workflows using a special Process Controlled Workflow Restart program: Z_RESTART_PC_WFL. This program can be found in SAP Note 1458380. When you execute the program, it requires you to enter the GUID key of the Shopping Cart you wish to restart. Then when the program runs, it will logically delete the old workflow and trigger a new workflow for the object.

We were able to successfully restart all three failed workflows and they got through the “Create Decision Sets” step with no problem. Note that we had to use this special Z program to do the restart. Using t-code SWPR to try to restart them would not work.

Jocelyn, Mark,

Thank you for the reference to t-code BBP_PD. Of course, I don’t have access to it in Production but I did get some of our functional staff to look at it. They did not see anything unusual about the Shopping Carts. I did open a message with SAP and they came back and pointed me to Note 1724251. This note gave some nice instructions on how to debug the Create Decision Sets method. I did that and it appears that the issue is that the system is not finding a Process Level object which then leads to the REF_IS_INITIAL exception.

I have passed these findings back to SAP and will keep you all posted on what happens!

Thanks!

Loren

Hi Loren,
Problem with this stuff is usually that it’s not even BRFplus – which I could help you with – its BRF.
So basically the message is saying its missing a parameter?
Have you raised a SAP message for this?
And do you have any parameters that might validly be a blank or space?
Is there anything weird about the SRM object when you look at it the special SRM object transaction …. Now that is going deep into my past but there was a SAPGUI transaction that showed you the raw contents of the document. Something with BBP_SRM in the name? At this point we need a current SRM person.

Jocelyn

I did find that thread and you are correct, I don’t think this is an authorization issue since these same users have created many successful shopping carts both before and after the error occurred. I’m not really sure about the object itself. What I can see is a GUID id in the log so I assume that is the correct object.

It looks the same as ones that did complete successfully.

I think going the OSS route may have to be my next move. ☹

I found this thread (which you probably did too) on SCN…
http://scn.sap.com/thread/1681832

So your user’s authorizations aren’t the problem…. Can you see the business object in the workflow log?

If the business object is there, then perhaps this is an OSS thing. A standard task and all that jazz.

The task ID is TS40007938 which executes class-method /SAPSRM/CL_WF_PROCESS_MGR_SBWF-CREATE_DECISION_SETS

Hi Loren,
I am not up to speed on PCW, but can you tell which task this happens in? Is this really happening in the BRFPlus framework?
Cheers,
Sue

Hello Workflow Experts!

I met Sue Keohan and Jocelyn Dart at TechEd back in October and I lamented to them about the lack of documentation available for Process Controlled workflow. Now I have a situation where I have some Shopping Cart workflow errors occurring and I don’t know how to analyze the problem.

The error is occurring in the “Create Decision Sets” step. The messages returned (shown in the screen-shots below) are not much help. I have tried to debug the step but I have not been able to see where the error is occurring. I think the error may be happening in a macro and my limited understanding is that you cannot debug macros.

The users who created these shopping carts have created dozens of other shopping carts after these errors occurred with no problems. I was hoping that someone might have some suggestions as to what I can look for to try to determine the cause of these errors?
