Assistance required in Workflow design for sending Workitems to Blackberry Mobile device

We have a process in our custom Trip Approval workflow for Trip Expense Reports that sends outlook emails (via a call to Java) that go to the user's Outlook in-box and to their Blackberry. They can approve or reject a trip from either place, or they can approve the trip from their SAP Workflow in-box.

They click on the attachment (on the Blackberry) or on a link (from Outlook) and we have a java process calls a function module to retrieve the trip information that will be used by Java to display the details of the trip, along with the attached receipt images on the Blackberry or in Outlook. The Blackberry (or Outlook) user views this information. They then have the option of clicking Approve or Reject from the Blackberry.

If they click approve, Java calls a function module in SAP that will trigger an event that we created in the ZBUS2089 business object that is called RemoteApproval. The workflow listens for that event. When the event is detected in SAP, then the approval method is executed in the SAP workflow and the workflow is completed or sent for second approval, which is done via the same process as the first approval.

If the Blackberry user clicks Reject, then they have to enter the reason for the rejection. This information is sent back via Java calling a function module to trigger the RemoteRejection event in SAP. When that event is detected, then the rejection fork of the workflow is executed which sends the workflow back to the traveler for correction and resubmission. The process then starts again by sending out emails again to start the approval process again.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Sue

Depending on the version of BlackBerry this may be very difficult as different releases of BB will have varying levels of support for HTML in the e-mail client on the device.
As far as sending the emails that's easy as the BES will forward all emails to the device once received in Outlook. Its what happens on the device that is the problem. You should also consider how you are going to handle the situation when the user opens the email and tries to execute the work item without any connectivity (ie. @ 37,000 feet on a plane).
