Workflow issues after Upgrade to ECC 6.0

Hi,

We're upgrading at the moment too and a few of our WF definitions have had a few glitches as well, but nothing yet to stop the builder bringing the definition up as yet.

It turned out we had a bunch of activation issues because of our Business Objects not compiling properly due to SAP DDIC changes as well as our code not syntax checking properly.

My advice would be to check all of your Business Objects and activate them, then drop the buffers using SWU_OBUF, then try using SWUD (not SWDD) and select 'test environment' which should try to activate your problematic Workflow in a slightly different way than SWDD.

Interestingly I have noticed that SWDD in ECC 6.0 is much more finnicky about data elements and bindings than previous versions. Partly I think this was because before the OO stuff came in the old SWDD code was a lot more lenient about some errors and sy-subrcs were being overlooked by the builder. Partly I think there was a lot of old lazy patched code that has since been tightened up :)

For example we have a WF definition that activates fine in 4.6c eventhough one of its container elements clearly is invalid (it points to a custom structure that does not exist in DDIC). The WF builder does not catch this as a syntax error unless you double-click on the data element settings of the container element itself, in which case a message is spat out. But the very same WF definition does not compile in ECC 6.0 because of this issue and the WF builder complains that is a serious fault, as it should.

Regards,
