Checking WF template versions

And sometimes no. If I were you I'd be sure the current active version of the Workflow is indeed the same as the 'Transport' version in table SWDSHEADER, i.e. you're comparing-current-active-version in system A with current-active-version in system B.
 
Occasionally the activation of a definition can fail leaving you with the impression that 'current' WF Definition is the latest version available, which isn't always the case.
If you're after definitive reliable proof that two definitions are a match (at least in terms of the step order and task details) you can always try the old trick of 'printing' both definitions in SWDD by using the menu path: 
 
     Workflow->Print->Details 
 
And then do a line by line comparison between the printouts.
 
This should reassure you that the steps are the same and also help you check for things like binding and agent determination (at the Workflow level) as well.
 
As Mike said though, the definition is only the set of rules that Workflow follows. You might also want to have a look at the Business Objects and other code the WF Definition might invoke at runtime.
