Changing user in program execution to avoid a backgroud step

I thought I read somewhere that releases greater than 4.6c we 
could switch users programmatically. 
 
For my purpose, switch to WF-BATCH then back after a method call.
If I could do this, I could save a background process step that is doing
the 
exact same thing. Except I won't have to have that extra step with
Advance with Dialog issues in UWL!
 
Thoughts?
