Mass update of Work Items

Hi All,

Just wanted to get an idea about mass updating of Work Items. Our
requirement is to change a few workflow container elements which are of
elementary data type referring to some ABAP Dictionary table fields. The
client's looking for a way to mass update work items. What would be the
repercussions of changing container elements of a running workflow instance?
What is the best way to do this? Any function modules which can read work
items of a user and operate on Workflow containers(read/change). I did
search for them and found

SAP_WAPI_CREATE_WORKLIST    for reading the work items in the inbox of a
user
SAP_WAPI_READ_CONATINER      to read container of a Work Item
SAP_WAPI_WRITE_CONTAINER     to write back the changes to work item
container.

Are these the right function modules to use?

Any help is highly appreciated.

We are on ECC 6.0.
