Deadline notification to workitem agent

Hello all,
 
I have this intuitive requirement but I can't seem to solve it: 
Workitem is created and agent assigned via rule, say position X.
In case latest end has reached I would like to notify the supersior of position X.
 
How can I do that ? rule 168 provides the superior, however workitem container doesn't hold the assigned agents...
 
Any ideas ?
