Reject Function in ME54

Hi,

Can someone please explain the rational why the 'Reject' feature is not available if ME54 is executed directly instead of via a workitem? 

In our scenario as long as the user executes ME54 via the SAP inbox of a shortcut from Outlook that feature is available. But if they are already in SAP and happen to go directly to ME54, that feature is not available.

If this is standard, what have people done to work around this annoying feature?
