Thanks so much to all who responded! Looks like I'm out of luck until
we upgrade...

See if OSS Note 698087 is of any help but it can only be implemented
using support packs ( for BASIS 610, 620 --> )

Symptom

If an application created mails and sent them from the SAP System, the
mail title could not be set separately - instead, it was filled
automatically with the description of the first body part.In addition,
the length of the document description (and thus the mail title) was
restricted to 50 characters.

Other terms

Subject, Business Communication Services, BCS, mail title

Reason and Prerequisites

This restriction is historically based.

Solution

This note partially cancels the two restrictions. Therefore, using the
Business Communication Services (BCS), you can now determine a mail
title (SUBJECT MIME header attribute) that differs from the description
(DESCRIPTION MIME attribute) of the first body part.

Note the following restrictions:

1. You can only create mails with a long mail title using the Business
Communication Services (BCS). Use the CL_BCS->SET_MESSAGE_SUBJECT( )
method for this.

2. Sending the mail must occur via the SAPconnect SMTP node. The
(extended) mail title is not taken into account when you send via an RFC
node since it is not part of the certified SAPconnect RFC interface.

3. When you display documents using the SAP GUI, they continue to be
displayed with the title truncated after 50 characters. The long mail
title only appears in the mail client of the recipients outside of the
SAP System.

The changes in this note are only available by Support Package. A manual
change is not possible due to the high number of interfaces to be
changed.

Please search for the OSS Notes. Just a few days back I saw a
note on this.

Sending email to Outlook via RSWUWFML2, the subject line
cuts off at 50 characters. Has anyone noticed this problem? In the SAP
inbox the subject is all there. In SCOT, the subject line is cut off.
Is this an SAP constraint, or does it have to do with the program? Is
there any way to fix this?
