Error handling in the background task

Thanks Mike. That's exactly what I did. I have exit_return statement built
into the method.
But during exceptions, the wflow log indicates that the workitem is in
process but in fact it hangs.The status of wf shows that it is 'In process'.
 
Any idea ?
