Runtime version and new version

This is of course not only impossible but also not adviseable, at least as
far as I know  :-)
 
There is no automatic solution, since it would evolve performing an
intelligent evaluation of the changes made between the currently
instantiated version (running workflow) and the new version. Computers have
huge calculating capacities, SAP is pretty good too, but this task is a bit
too tough.
 
Solution: find all currently active flows with the old definition
(selection on creation date I suppose). Kill each one (logical deletion)
after starting an instance of the new one.
 
Problem: if this is a multistep workflow you have to manually advance each
active workflow to the step it was in using the old definition. Either that
or unhook the telephone line for a couple of weeks.
 
If you have only changed a task which is used in a workflow I am not sure
if the new version will be used when the existing flows arrives at that
point (assuming of course that the interface is the same, otherwise you
would have changes in the workflow as well). We have solved that in one of
our solutions which have some very long-running instances. By kicking off a
subflow the new version of the subflow is used, and that is where much of
the logic is.

Hello all.
 
We are in 4.5B
 
We have modified a workflow.
 
We want that new version will also be available to running workitems.
 
How can we replace in running workitem actual runtime version with new
version?
