Substitution usng 'user; not role

Patricia, 
Position substitution is only relevant if your workflow step agent
determination returns a position or higher (e.g. job or org unit).  For
user substitution add an entry to table HRUS_D2.  Make sure you choose
"active" substitution.

WF Builder setup to go to a  user, all the other WFs are assigned to a
role. I'm having a problem setting up substitution?  I've tried using
the
position# and also the username without any success.

What am doing wrong?
