kicking off READY background items

Hi Sheldon,
Check transaction SM58 - if the batch work items had a dialog interruption you may find error messages
there that will help.  Also check ST22 for short dumps as this also leaves background work items in READY
status as the execution never finishes.

Hello,
 
I have some background workitems that are stuck in READY status (4.5B).  I have
tried re-executing them by using SWI1 -> Edit -> Work item -> Execute batch
Item, but I received an error message stating "Function cannot be executed on
work item XXXXXXXXXX".
 
Any thoughts on why these items got stuck (just happened to a few items today,
but others have gone through just fine) and how I can kick these background
items back off?
