Bit of code below does the trick for me, if there is no mail address available for the user I just fill it with a 'fixed' address. If you are not using HR you have to grab the mail address from the user master record and not the employee one, there is a bapi available to read user information.

   senderPernr = pa0105-pernr.
   select single * from pa0105 where
       pernr eq senderPernr and
       subty eq '0010' and
       begda le sy-datum and
       endda ge sy-datum.
       if sy-subrc eq 0."sender's address retrieved
        swc_set_element container 'AddressString' pa0105-usrid_long.
        swc_set_element container 'TypeId' 'U'.
        swc_call_method sender 'CreateAddress' container.
       endif.

* No address could be created

like to replace WF-BATCH as the sender of the email triggered by the send
