Substitution: user-exit ?

Hi Mike,

Your thoughts are generally right, but this is the case when these users =
are involved only in the approval process and never will be involved in =
any other Workflow process - they are very rare SAP users.=20

Their levels of approval are recorded in the custom table, therefore the =
thought was to help them when they will define their deputies - to check =
whether their planned deputy has the same approval level in the custom =
table or not. To find out that he has not during the Workflow approval =
process is too late.

I thought there is some FM customized in HR tables where addtional =
checks may be put, but I am not sure whether and where.

Thanks.

Ernest

Hi Ernest,
...and would these be same authorizations for leave approval and IDOC
failure workflows?
My point is that this is probably not the right place to do this -
personal substitute is non-workflow specific, and whilst it may work now
you may implement other workflows in future with users who have nothing =
to
do with approvals, so you'll need to cater for that and it will =
eventually
get messy.

Another thought: if an organization trusts a person to approve purchase
orders, why not trust them to delegate it appropriately whilst on =
holiday.
Effectively the original approvers remain accountable for any mishaps by
the fact that they set up the substitute.
If you still require it, the authority check is best done within the
workflow rather than the substitution.

Cheers
Mike
