Deadline Monitoring - Replace step information

I could be way out here but I though that If you changed the text of the
task (I hope you didn't create a new task) and transported it, when it
arrives in the users inbox it will display the updated text. I haven't read
this anywhere but I am pretty sure that I remember seeing this. I guess the
only thing to do is to go into your QA environment and test this.
 
If I am wrong then I guess you could write some sort of program that reads
all the current items and kicks off a new workflow for each one.

Hi, we are working with release 4.6C.
 
I have a WF that sends an email to employees at a certain date in time.
This is controlled by a email step with deadline monitoring activated.
There was a problem with the email text that was originally created and this
has been fixed now.  BUT the current work items that are waiting with their
deadline monitoring still contain the old email message.  How do I replace
the email text with the new text on these work items.  Can I recreate these
work items somehow without restarting the WF?  Also, this may have affected
many emails tasks(1000+).
 
Any help would be appreciated,
