Preventative Maintenance

We would like to enable preventative maintenance items as workflows.  For
example, an air conditioning unit needs to be inspected every 12 months.
When I examined the preventative maintenance BOR objects, I discovered
that NO events were defined under 4.6B.  My assumption is that events will
have to be defined for each situation in which preventative maintenance is
requested.  Does SAP provide some sort of parameters table for keeping
track of these conditions?  How would this be related to the maintenance
plan?
 
If anyone has implemented preventative maintenance before, feel free to
pass along any advise.
