Jeroen

Thanks for that, for the Role with Responsibility, do you suggest that, I
could examine the Workflow task number then assign Users. Wouldnt this
still have to be managed in Dev and Transported to Production. Or is it
maintainable straight in Production?

John,

That is a bit depending on how you organise the maintenance of your PD
objects.

You have a valid point for not assigning tasks directly to individual
structure objects, especially positions. If there is a situation where
direct position assignment is required, I would consider using a role with
responsibilities (4.6) and maintain these responsibilities on your
production system directly. This allows for extensive flexibility while not
being dependent on position numbers. You could use your task number as a
responsibility determiner (you would need only one role then to cover all
your task assignments to positions).

On the other hand, if you maintain your jobs in your dev system, properly
manage your job catalogue and transport them to your production system
regularly, there is no issue directly using jobs as the driving factor for
your agent assignment. If this is not the case or cannot be done you could
consider programming your own role and using some characteristic of your
jobs or positions to assign agents (eg a part of your description will make
all this objid-independent). This does require quite a bit of knowledge on
how this information is actually stored on the database however.

Hope this helps,

Jeroen

Subject: Master data

Hi all

Could anyone advise me to the following

I have set up a workflow making reference to positions and jobs. But as
this is being trransported into UAT and production, and the same positions
and jobs are/will be Master Data, they will be created and maintained in
Production. The agent assignment within the workflow definition at the
step level, which i have set to 'Positions', is transportable, and uses the
SAP ORG number assignment for the position in DEV(which is going to be
different in Production).

Should I therefore be making all agent assignments to either expressions or
roles, and not anything that is going to be maintained as Master Data.

Thanks

John
