        you may have already checked this. we discovered this when we upgraded - the sender of email needs to have an email address in the user profile.
 
        for background users like wf_batch, edi_usr etc, we have created a common valid email address whose email is stored in a public folder and gets deleted after 7 days. at first, our security analyst had generously put in his email address for wf_batch and had to promptly change it when he got 'out of office' mails from workflow email recipients. the reason we have a unique valid address for background users is - if the workflow sends an email to someone who has left an 'out of office' email, that person would then get a system error saying 'invalid address'.
