Use of Common organization units across SAP components ?

Hi folks,
 
Need some guidance on this one.
 
Here at this customer they have core R/3, BBP and CRM all with different
requirements and
usages of the good old PD org units. At present each component is using its
own PD org
units. What we are trying to decide here is do we have one common org unit
that is replicated between
the components or does the customer have to maintain a minumum of 3
different org units
for each component ?
 
Has anyone else faced this situation ? If so what approaches and
success/failure did you
experience.
