Using client-independent workflows in different clients

in case I want to use the same workflow-pattern in different clients, is
there a possibility to use the same pattern or do I have to copy the master
pattern and use a copy for each client? The issue I see is that all the
organizational assignments within the workflow (like Org.units, users, etc.)
is client-dependent, so I cannot maintain different assignments for one
pattern!
