so I logged off Friday evening, as suggested. It is Sunday afternoon now
however, and the machine (ocompile) was rebooted basically without notice,
bringing down my session started today in the morning.

Please, if this computer is getting to become our workgroup server for
the coming months, we should follow the declared maintainance schedule.
Comes without saying that shutting down such a server must not happen too
often (at HERMES for instance typical uptime on workgroup server nodes was
~1 year, basically following rare instances of AFS client mulfunction and
DESY Computing center UPS troubles):

[geordi] /hermes/example $ date
Sun Aug 28 14:43:06 CEST 2011
[geordi] /hermes/example $ uptime
 14:38:49 up 229 days, 3:53, 110 users, load average: 1.15, 0.82, 0.53

  Thank you,
    Alexander.
