Biomedical researchers in academia and industry have the common goal of
improving human health through science. The objective of this panel is
to challenge the entrenched paradigms of both research environments, and
engage local research communities in a discussion about how the
different approaches to R&D contribute to the health of society.

The discussion will hopefully evolve to include a variety of
perspectives in this area. By examining differences that emerge, we hope
to explore the interrelation between academia and industry, and how the
diversity of science and opinions enrich the research areas related to
medicine and healthcare. In addition, we hope to start discussions about
potential collaborations between academia and industry during the event.

The*panel members *will be Susan Windham-Bannister (Biomedical
Innovation Advisors & former Mass. Life Sciences Center CEO), Kenneth
Kaitin (Professor and Director, Tufts Center for the Study of Drug
Development, Tufts University School of Medicine, Tufts University),
Harvey Lodish (Professor of Biology; Member, Whitehead Institute;
Professor of Bioengineering), and Derek Lowe (Research Fellow at Vertex
Pharmaceuticals & blogger of “In The Pipeline”).
