Good morning,
As of this month, Apple has stopped providing security and stability updates for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Since safe computing is a top priority here at MIT, IS&T will no longer test or develop applications for OS X Snow Leopard and strongly encourages users to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Users can upgrade to OS X Mavericks directly from OS X 10.6.8, free of charge, provided their machine(s) meet the minimum system requirements.
Users on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will still receive security updates, however, Apple is only releasing stability fixes for Mavericks, the current version of OS X.
How to Obtain OS X Mavericks
MIT offers OS X Mavericks at no direct cost to DLCs, for faculty, staff, student and affiliate use.
You can download OS X Mavericks from IS&T’s Software Grid without the need to register for or use an existing Apple ID.
Getting Help
Help documentation for OS X Mavericks, including upgrade instructions, can be found in the Knowledge Base.
If you need assistance installing or using OS X Mavericks, contact the IS&T Help Desk at 617.253.1101 or helpdesk at mit.edu. You can also submit a request online.
