[Macpartners] problem with HP Color LaserJet 5550dn printer

My office recently purchased an HP Color LaserJet 5550dn printer.
After some people around the office started using it, I noticed a
problem. For some reason, any time a user prints a document on the
5550dn, the user's default printer is switched automatically to the
5550dn.

I can see this happen in the Printer Setup Utility when I follow
these steps:

1. Open Printer Setup Utility, highlight LaserJet 8100DN and click
Make Default.
2. While leaving Printer Setup Utility open, open a document, select
File > Print, choose HP Color LaserJet 5550dn as printer.
3. Click Print.
4. When I click Print, the bold text denoting the default printer
switches from the 8100 DN to the 5550dn.

This is very annoying since most users in the office don't need to
print color documents often. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried
Googling the problem and looking at the printer's configuration using
HP's web utility, but I can't find anything.

Thanks,
