Dear all,
Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany solicits applications for an
Endowed Tenure-Track Professorship in Sustainable Operations (open rank) and Co-Director of KLU’s new Center for Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chains
POSITION
Kühne Logistics University (KLU) is seeking to appoint a new faculty member for Sustainable Operations. This is the result of a collaboration with Kühne + Nagel, the world’s largest freight forwarding company. The professorship will be a full-time tenure-track position (for assistant or associate professors) or tenured (for full professors). The rank will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and reputation. The position will be based at KLU in the HafenCity district of Hamburg.
A research Center in this subject area was recently established at KLU, recognizing the importance now attached to environmental and social sustainability in business, government, and academia. Logistics is a major source of emissions, and its environmental impact expected to increase substantially in future decades in the absence of new initiatives. Academic institutions, working closely with companies and governments, have a key role to play in researching these initiatives and equipping present and future decision-makers with the skills they need to implement them. KLU wishes to be at the forefront of research and education in sustainable logistics. This new appointment will play a key role in helping us to achieve this goal.
Candidates for the post should have a Ph.D. in logistics/supply chain management, operations management, environmental science, transport, or management, with a research focus on the environmental sustainability of logistical activity. He/she will be expected to have publications on green / sustainable logistics and experience in supervising research projects in this field. He/she will be expected to champion KLU’s diverse activities in the general area of sustainable operations by collaborating with other faculty members. Candidates should have a good understanding of the challenges that companies face in trying to improve their environmental performance. They should also have a good knowledge of government policy in this field and the related activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Research on social topics would be welcome as well.
Although only ten years old, KLU has established a strong international reputation for its research, teaching, and industrial outreach. We are looking for someone who can significantly enhance this reputation with respect to sustainable operations, building on the base that Professor Alan McKinnon has established during his years in KLU. He/she will be expected to publish high-quality research papers, apply for external research funding, supervise projects at the Masters and Ph.D. levels and, for an appointment made at the associate or full rank, provide research leadership. They will teach courses on sustainability-related topics on our regular degree courses and in executive education. It will, therefore, be desirable to have a proven record of inspirational teaching in this specialism.
KLU will offer an internationally competitive salary and bonus scheme, reasonable teaching commitments, a generous annual research budget, and excellent administrative support. The position also comes with funding for one Ph.D. student and an expectation that future doctoral projects will be funded with additional funding from outside sources.
Located in the heart of Hamburg, one of Europe’s most lively, attractive, and cosmopolitan cities, KLU is a fast-growing international university offering excellent working conditions and a strong sense of community. Our faculty are dedicated teachers and leading scholars in their respective fields. Detailed information on teaching and research at KLU can be found on our website: www.the-klu.org<http://www.the-klu.org>.
APPLICATION
Candidates are invited to send their applications comprising curriculum vitae, publication list, teaching portfolio (including details on teaching experience and student feedback), and research statement (including a description of research and publication projects in progress) to klu-jobs at m.personio.de .
Please send the documents by 15 November, 2020.
KLU is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse faculty, staff, and student body and welcomes all applicants.

Moritz
