Position Announcement

Assistant or Associate Professor of Operations Management

The University of Alabama

Culverhouse College of Commerce & Business Administration
Department of Information Systems, Statistics, and Management Science

 

The Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at The
University of Alabama invites applications for a new tenure track faculty
position in Operations Management (OM) at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor effective August 16, 2007.  In addition to conducting scholarly
research in the field of OM, the position will also involve teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate levels.  The successful candidate will have
completed a Ph.D. in Operations Management or a related field before August
16, 2007.  The area of specialization is open, but candidates with research
and teaching interests in Supply Chain Management or Logistics are
particularly encouraged to apply.  Preferred qualifications include 2-3
years of academic experience after completing the Ph.D. with a record of
good scholarly research and teaching.  However, new Ph.D. graduates are also
encouraged to apply.  Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the
rank and experience of the successful candidate.

 

The Operations Management program at The University of Alabama includes an
undergraduate major in OM.  At the graduate level, there is an M.S. degree
program in OM, which is offered both on campus and online, as well as a
Ph.D. program in OM.  The OM faculty also provides support for the
interdisciplinary Supply Chain & Operations Management concentration in the
M.B.A. program.  The OM program is a strong and growing program that has
more than doubled in size over the past three years.  There are currently
200 undergraduate, 20 masters, 15 M.B.A., and 10 doctoral students in the OM
programs.  Employment opportunities for OM students have increased with the
growth of the automotive industry and the resurgence of the steel industry
in the state of Alabama.  The program is well-rounded and includes courses
and research in the areas of manufacturing, distribution, logistics,
transportation, and supply chain operations.  Students and faculty are
frequently involved in projects with local industry and government through
the Alabama Productivity Center which is also housed within the Culverhouse
College of Commerce and Business Administration.

 

Founded in 1831 and located in historic Tuscaloosa, Alabama, The University
of Alabama is the main campus of the UA System and was the first university
in the state.  With a metropolitan population of around 100,000 the
Tuscaloosa area offers many cultural and outdoors activities.
