POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
DEAN
FOGELMAN COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS
THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Dean of the
Fogelman College of Business and Economics (FCBE) at the University of Memphis.
The University is seeking an exceptional leader with a strong record of academic
accomplishments and community engagement.
The FCBE is AACSB-accredited and offers challenging coursework to a diverse
group of students. The FCBE academic units include the School of Accountancy;
the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management; and the
Departments of Economics; Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate; Management;
Management Information Systems; and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. The
College employs over 100 faculty members, including eleven chairs of excellence
and administers 6 research centers. See: fcbe.memphis.edu
The University is one of two comprehensive doctoral-granting public institutions
in Tennessee and serves a diverse student population of approximately 21,000,
including about 4,500 graduate students. The FCBE programs enroll approximately
3,200 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. Located in a residential
neighborhood, the University has six colleges; Arts and Sciences, Education,
Engineering, Communications and Fine Arts, University College, and Business and
Economics and the Schools of Law, Nursing, and Audiology and Speech-Language

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative
officer for the FCBE. The Dean has the responsibility for recruiting and
retaining outstanding faculty, for developing and maintaining high-quality
instructional programs, and for building a robust research enterprise.
Additionally, he/she must provide strong leadership in enhancing FCBE?s
relationships with its constituencies including students, faculty, alumni, the
business community, and the national and international research community. The
Dean reports directly to the Provost and is a member of the Deans? and
Provost?s Councils.
He/she will work collaboratively with the Vice Provost for Research, and other
campus units in the development of new multi-disciplinary partnerships with
particular emphasis on developing relationships with the business community,
government agencies and with other universities.
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must have a doctoral degree from an accredited
institution of higher education and be qualified to hold professorial rank in
one of the FCBE?s academic departments. He/she must demonstrate a record of
progressively responsible administrative experience in a university setting and
a distinguished record of research and scholarship. He/she should have the
ability to work with a diverse faculty and student body in a wide range of
disciplines and have the vision and administrative expertise to enhance the
image and reputation of the FCBE. The University is also interested in
candidates who have demonstrated leadership in cross-disciplinary and
interdisciplinary research and program development with an emphasis on
university-wide entrepreneurship and innovation.
